Type of Event: Workshop

This two-day workshop hosted by the Centre for Gender Studies begins a conversation around the diverse approaches to the study of gender taking place at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.  Interdisciplinary in both theoretical grounding and methodological approach, Gender Studies encourages scholars to explore the ways in which boundaries are constructed and contested, blurred and made rigid, in contexts intimate, academic, local and transnational.  In bringing together members of staff and the student body, this workshop provides not only an opportunity to showcase the innovative approaches shaping the Centre, but also enters into a discussion around the future of Gender Studies scholarship.  As this body of knowledge and practice emerges through the confluence and crossing of multiple borders, what lies ahead?  In which new directions will we take Gender Studies research as members of the academic community unique to SOAS?
