Emergency Egress for Disabled People

STAFF AND STUDENTS

All staff members and students are strongly encouraged to disclose any impairment or medical condition which affects their ability to either use the stairs of to exit the building in an emergency, in order that appropriate arrangements can be made to ensure their safe evacuation in the event of an emergency (or lift breakdown).

Staff members and their line managers should contact the Diversity Advisor, Deb Viney by e-mail on dv4@soas.ac.uk or by calling extension 4957, she will contact other members of the team as appropriate.

Students should contact the Student Disability Advisors Zoë Davis or Angela Axon by e-mail zd@soas.ac.uk or aa113@soas.ac.uk or by calling extension 5018.

VISITORS

If you are inviting a visitor that you know to be disabled then please advise them of this policy.

Visitors can contact SOAS Health and Safety Office in advance to arrange their emergency egress
OR
(when the alarm rings) simply move to a refuge point and use the device provided there to contact help.
