What do we do?
Every SOAS department and faculty has an assigned Human Resources Team for support on all staffing matters. Each team has a HR Assistant, HR Officer and HR Manager.
HR Assistants are responsible for:
- Recruitment administration including shortlisting, interviews, references, travel to interview, interview expenses
- Web recruitment (iGrasp) adviceTemporary administrative appointments
- Mortgage reference or confirmation of employment letters
- Childcare vouchers
- HR-expenses (e.g. eye tests or agreed relocation costs)
- Fixed-term staff contract expiry date reminders
- Administration of contract variations and fractional contracts
HR Officers are responsible for:
- Advertisements
- Offers of employment, contracts and contractual variations
- Maternity, paternity, adoption and other forms of leave
- Certificates of Sponsorship (work permits) applications
- Induction
- Probation
- Advice on HR policies and procedures
- Resignation, retirements, expiry of fixed-term contracts and leavers
- Job evaluation
HR Managers are responsible for:
- Employee relations issues e.g. grievances, disciplinary matters, performance, absence
- Support and advice for managers on how to handle complex staffing issues
- Policy development or complex queries about the interpretation or application of HR policies
- Job evaluation appeals
- HR Projects (e.g. Information Systems, Equality & Diversity, Reward Strategy etc)
The Human Resources Projects Coordinator (Simon Gywnne) is responsible for:
- HR website including self-service and managers desktop pages
- iGrasp web recruitment system
- Resourcelink (HR/Payroll Information System) as the lead person in core HR team
- Staff HESA return
