Fractional Teachers: Your Employment at SOAS
Significant changes to the employment processes are planned for fractional teachers, which are being introduced for the academic session 2013/2014.
How changes to the process will impact on you:
Your faculty office/IFCELs will continue be responsible for recruiting new fractional teachers and will confirm the details of your appointment by email. They will then enter your appointment details directly on the HR-Payroll system (Resourcelink). Your records will be suspended at this point so that no payment can be made to you. HR will use these details to generate your offer of employment, which will be sent to you via your Faculty/IFCELs office (not directly from HR).
Your offer of employment has been reformatted to include a number of new sections:
- An invitation to a HR induction
- Offer of employment with key terms & conditions including hours of work, grade and salary
- Supplementary terms & conditions booklet
- HR Induction form which includes a P46 tax form
- Summary report showing your key contractual information.
You will be required to attend an HR induction before you start work, normally in July or August if you are starting in October so we can gather the essential information we need to pay you. We are legally required to check the eligibility to work of all staff before they start work. Existing staff are still required to attend induction so we can obtain tax and pension forms. If you are unable to make HR induction offered to you, or plan to be away in July and August, please contact your designated HR Officer so that arrangements can be made for an early induction prior to your planned trip.
Failure to attend HR induction in July or August will lead to a delay in salary payment.
Once you have attended HR induction, your HR-Payroll (Resourcelink) records will be updated with your bank, tax and pension details and your record will be ready for payment.
