Request

1) The total number of surveys sent out for each of the last 4 years by the library service and the response rates for each survey, with details as to whether it is for all students / staff or particular groups.

2) The University’s response rate for the National Student Survey for each of the last 4 years.

3) Is there institutional policy or guidance on conducting surveys?

1) I have listed below the individual surveys carried out by the Library service at SOAS during this period. Unfortunately no information is held on response rates, as the number of responses was recorded but not the number of recipients in each case.

2011 - 3 surveys
Electronic Resource Use at SOAS - May/June- Sent to all students and staff - 295 responses
Survey of academic attitudes to Open Access and Institutional Repositories (on behalf of UKCoRR) April 2011 - Sent to staff members only - 43 responses
Disabled Library users survey - March - 13 responses. Sent to disabled Library users only

2010 - 2 surveys
E-resource usage survey - May/June. Sent to all students and staff - 260 responses
E-submission of PhD theses survey - July/August. Sent to research students only - 107  responses

2009 - 2 surveys
E-resource usage survey - May/June. Sent to all students and staff. 272 responses
