Disclosure date: 27 November 2012
1) Please can I have a copy of the log with which you use for log / tracking Freedom of Information requests (for 2010/11 and 2011/12)
2) Please can you also provide me with the total number of requests received for 2010/11 and 2011/12 and the number of those requests which exceeded the 20 working day deadline.
1) Reporting of Freedom of Information requests at SOAS is done on a calendar year basis, so I am providing data covering the years 2010, 2011 and 2012, so that you can extract the data that you are interested in.
Please see attached spreadsheet containing data from SOAS’s Freedom of Information request log. The names and other identifying details of requesters have been redacted, as have a small number of staff members’ names. In SOAS’s view this information is exempt from disclosure under section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act which covers personal information. The people affected would not have reasonably expected SOAS to disclose this information on request, and therefore disclosure would breach the first data protection principle, in that it would constitute unfair processing. This exemption is an absolute exemption, meaning that there is no requirement for SOAS to conduct a public interest test.
You may also be interested in our Disclosure Log which includes the responses to most requests received since summer 2011. You can find the log at http://www.soas.ac.uk/infocomp/foi/log/.
2) Again, reporting is normally done on a calendar-year basis, and for 2010, 2011 and 2012, the figures were as follows:
2010 69 received; 4 answered later than 20 day deadline.
2011 108 received; 13 answered later than 20 day deadline.
2012 (to end of Oct) 73 received; 9 answered later than 20 day deadline.
