Reference: FOI2014/051

Request

A breakdown of ethnic groups of current undergraduates reading Law

A breakdown of ethnic groups of current undergraduates reading all other non-Law subjects.

Response

Please see the attached spreadsheet. Data is for undergraduate degree students and taken from the 1 December 2013 snapshot which is used for statutory funding and internal/external monitoring.  Law undergraduates are defined as those studying for single, or joint subject undergraduate law degrees.  In accordance with standard rounding policy where an ethnicity group constitutes less than 5% of the population, it is reported as “less than 5%” rather than the specific figure.

Under the FOI Act, personal data (information that identifies or is about an individual) is exempt from disclosure under section 40(2) where disclosure would be a breach of one or more of the data protection principles. In this case, it would be both unfair and unlawful to disclose ethnicity data which could be linked to specific individuals due to the small size of the group.
