Procurement of garments

Disclosure date: 16 April 2014

Reference: FOI2014/058

Request

This request has been sent to universities across the UK to collect data on university procurement practices.

Please answer the questions listed below in as much detail as possible.

Where the term 'garments' is used, please take this to include course wear, staff wear, sportswear, uniforms, clothing sold by the student union and any other garments that you hold data for. If you do not hold data on any of these categories, please send all data you do hold on the others.

Also, if procurement is so decentralised at your institution that you do not know the exact figures of expenditure on these categories then please say this, and give, if you can, a figure that you believe represents the probable amount.

  1. What was the total amount (in pounds) spent by the university on garments in the last financial year (1st April 2013- 31st March 2014) or the last year you have figures for?
  2. What was the total amount spent on garments by the university's student union in the last financial year  (1st April 2013- 31st March 2014) or the last year you have figures for?
  3. What was the total amount spent on garments by societies, including sports teams at the university in the last financial year (1st April 2013- 31st March 2014) or the last year you have figures for?

Response

  1. Zero – SOAS has not bought any ‘garments’ in the last financial year.
  2. The student union is a separate legal entity from SOAS and we therefore have no information about their expenditure.
  3. Student union societies and sports teams are independent of SOAS and we therefore hold no information about their expenditure.
