Wired and Wireless Connectivity

We maintain an 802.1X based network for wired and wireless connectivity.  For members of the college, if no instructions exist for your operating system, you will need to try to work out how to configure your wired or wireless network card with the following information:

SSID:eduroam
Connection Type:WPA2 Enterprise
Network Type:WPA2
Encryption Protocol:AES
EAP Method:TTLS (PEAP also supported)
Inner Authentication Method:MSCHAPv2 (EAP-MSCHAPv2 and PAP also supported)
Outer Identity:@soas.ac.uk
Username:<username>@soas.ac.uk
Password:<password>
Root CA Signing Authority:AddTrust External Root (Linux users can typically find this certificate living at /etc/ssl/certs/AddTrust_External_Root.pem)
Hostname (subject) Verify:eduroam.soas.ac.uk

N.B. it is crucial that you configure your equipment to verify both the 'Root CA Signing Authority' and 'Hostname Verify' (aka 'subject') entries. Failure to do so means that your equipment is happy to give your SOAS username and password to anyone without your knowing and so it is forbidden for SOAS users to use 'eduroam' without this check.

Root CA Signing Authority Certificate

On many devices we have come across (for example Android and Symbian) you might find yourself unable to connect unless you install the AddTrust External Root CA certificate; you will need use your GPRS/3G connectivity to download it.  For your convenience, we have supplied direct links to the same certificate but in two different formats, one of which your device should understand:
