Apple Mac OS X - Connectivity and Printing
Each version of Apple Mac OS X is configured differently so please take care when following the instructions carefully.Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion)/10.7 (Lion)
Connectivity
Since Mac OS X 10.7, Apple fortunately has added functionality that lets us produce a configuration template that can quickly prepare your workstation for wired and wireless connectivity and printing:
- using Safari, download our soas.mobileconfig profile (you will be prompted to log in)
- when asked to enter personalised settings for the Ethernet (wired) network, you should only be prompted for your SOAS password
- when asked to enter personalised settings for the wireless network “eduroam”, you should only be prompted for your SOAS password
- you should now be able to connect to the wired network and/or wireless (by selecting 'eduroam' from the list of available wireless networks via the Airport menu at the top right corner of your screen)
Printing (Tested with 10.8.2/10.7.7)
The configuration template also adds support for sending print jobs to the SOAS Safecom Printing System. You will only be able to print to the SOAS printers when connected to the SOAS network (either by wired or wireless)
- When sending a job to print, select "SOAS Printing" as the printer.
- You may be prompted for a username and password - if not, open the print queue icon in the dock, select the print job you have just sent and click "Resume"
- When prompted for a username and password, enter your username in the form ADIR\username (note the backslash, and no @soas.ac.uk after the username) and your SOAS network password.
- The job should disappear from the queue and be able to be collected from any of the main HP printers around SOAS.
Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)/10.5 (Leopard)
(tested with 10.6.3 and 10.5.7)
Please note: We do not support printing from personal machines running these versions of Mac OS X

- click on OK
- a 'Verify Certificate' window will pop up, click on 'Show Certificate'

- In the dropdown list of wireless networks in the menu bar select “Open Network Preferences”, in the network preferences window select your wireless network interface (Usually) 'Airport', and click 'Advanced'.
