Beginners Gulf Arabic

Part of the range of Arabic language learning courses and activities at SOAS Language Centre in London

Duration:
This is a one year course with three ten-week terms

Mode of Attendance: Part Time

Description

The course is aimed at complete beginners and is designed to enable learners to communicate in spoken Gulf Arabic within a limited range of everyday situations using the four skills:  reading, writing, listening and speaking. The course introduces the students to the Arabic writing system and enables them to read and write basic words and sentences. Emphasis is placed on the learner’s ability to speak and listen.

The course is taught in English and Arabic using contemporary printed and audio/video material. There is a balance between communicative activities, structure practice, grammar and vocabulary. Class size is normally limited to fifteen students to maximise interactive learning potential.
