Burmese Intensive Beginners

Description

The course is aimed at complete beginners with no previous knowledge of spoken or written Burmese. There will be 10 classes lasting two hours, and you should expect to spend about two hours studying for each class. You should bear this in mind before committing to the course. 

We will spend half the time on acquiring the basics of the spoken language, and half on learning to read and write the beautiful Burmese script.

Classes may fill up quickly. In some cases, additional classes are set up. It is best to apply early in order to avoid disappointment.

Materials

The spoken language classes will use the course Burmese by Ear by John Okell free to download from www.soas.ac.uk/bbe - and in this intensive course we should reach Unit 4 or Unit 5 of the book (forming basic statements and questions, language useful in cafés, restaurants, taking taxis). 

We will provide materials for learning to read and write Burmese, and can cover all basic elements of the writing system in the time available.

All students will need to have an mp3 player for listening to recorded learning materials.

This intensive courses takes place at the Bloomsbury or Vernon Square campus of SOAS over these dates and times:
