Chinese for Business (Advanced)

Description

The course is designed for business professionals or students who would like to gain confidence in doing business in contemporary China through improving Chinese language skills at proficiency level. It builds on participants’ abilities to deal with specific business situations gained from the Chinese for Business course and provides higher language competence for understanding and communicating on wider cultural and social issues that underline many aspects of business practice in modern China.

The main course book is supplemented with additional specially selected materials.

The course runs over three terms, with a total of 72 hours of tuition, including listening, speaking, reading and writing practice.

The course embeds advanced language content in cultural, social and economic context that are relevant to business and provides balanced development in language skills through communicative activities, structure practice, open discussions and case studies.

The number of participants will be limited to a maximum of twelve to allow close involvement.

Entry requirements

Applicants must demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the language and a command of approximately 2,000 characters. Applicants must contact the Language Centre at least 3 weeks before the beginning of term to arrange an assessment date. Those who have studied Chinese at degree level or have completed advanced-level Chinese courses at SOAS Language Centre are exempted from entry assessment.

Fee for this Course

The fee for each twelve-week term is £545 payable in advance.

Classes may fill up quickly. In some cases, additional classes are set up. It is best to apply early in order to avoid disappointment.

Materials

Advanced Business Chinese I and II (Cypress Book Co. UK Ltd). Course materials are not included in the course fee and can be purchased from the SOAS bookshop bookshop@soas.ac.uk.

Timetable

Classes will be held at the Bloomsbury or Kings Cross campuses of SOAS on one weekday evening or on Saturdays from 12.30pm to 2.30pm for 36 weeks, divided into three 12-week terms (with additional weeks where public holidays displace a class session). See our timetable pages for dates and times.
