Chinese Poetry and its Images - Saturdays
Part of the range of Chinese language teaching courses and activities at SOAS Language Centre
Duration:
This is a one-year course with three terms of twelve weeks.
Mode of Attendance: Part Time
Description
Chinese poetry in the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 AD) is a jewel in the history of Chinese literature. Tang poems are known for their vivid imagery, and many of them have been widely read and appreciated in many languages. This course is intended to introduce some of the best known and loved Tang poems and poets. While knowledge of the Chinese language is definitely an advantage, this analytical study will make use of existing English translations of these poems. During the course, participants will analyse the language, techniques, structure and images of these poems in order to better appreciate their beauty.
