Korean Lower Intermediate Course
Duration: One-year course with 3 terms, 10 weeks per term, 2 hours per week
Mode of Attendance: Part-time
This course at SOAS Language Centre in London aims to consolidate the basis of Korean grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation covered in the first year beginners course; coverage of more complex structures and vocabulary; emphasis on spoken communication and listening and reading comprehension.
The course is taught in English and Korean Language and includes coverage of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and a good balance between understanding the systems of Korean Language grammar and vocabulary, developing the skills of comprehending and producing Korean Language in speech and writing, guided practice in language usage and use and authentic communicative activities. Class size is limited to fifteen to allow intensive interactive practice with individual feedback and advice on progress.
Fees for this Course
The fee for each ten-week term is £275 payable in advance.
This course is subsidised by the Sejong Institute (Ministry of Culture, Republic of Korea) in order to encourage the learning and teaching of Korean worldwide, allowing us to set a lower fee. In order to obtain this fee subsidy we are required to forward your name to Sejong Institute in the Republic of Korea (thus outside of the EEA - European Economic Area). Only your name and the course title and dates will be forwarded, no other identifying data.

Classes may fill up quickly. In some cases, additional classes are set up. It is best to apply early in order to avoid disappointment.

Classes will be held at the Bloomsbury or Kings Cross Campus of SOAS in central London on one evening a week or Saturday daytime. Participants receive 20 hours of language tuition over a ten-week period (with additional weeks where public holidays displace a class session).

Not a complete beginner?
If you are not a complete beginner, you will need to complete an assessment for course placement, allowing us to decide which course is right for you.
To apply for an assessment please complete our Needs Analysis Form (pdf; 187kb) and send to the relevant email inbox where a Course Officer will contact you for scheduling.

If you are eligible for a discount, you will not be able to complete your transaction on the Online Store. You will need to bring a paper Application Form (pdf; 462kb) , including your Staff/Student card for us to make a copy of, after which we can process your application at the discounted rate.
If you are a returning student, you will have received a letter informing you of the procedures for rejoining prior to the start of the registration period. You can pay using any method indicated above. Returning students, if they are continuing onto the course indicated as the progression course, do not need to be assessed.
