Mode of Attendance: Part Time

This course is designed for complete beginners who want to progress swiftly with their study of Korean. The course contains 4 contact hours per week (two sessions twice a week), giving a total of 40 hours per term. It is expected that students will devote around 6 hours of self-study per week during term-time.

Over three terms, the course provides a thorough introduction to contemporary Korean, including the Korean writing system (Hangul) and how to read and write Korean. It covers basic grammar and essential vocabulary and the ability to communicate with confidence within a limited range of situations.

Method

The course is taught in English and Korean and includes coverage of the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. There is a balance between study of materials and communicative activities, structure practice and grammar exercises. Students completing this course are able to progress to Intermediate level Korean – Upper Intermediate Term 1 of regular course or Lower intermediate term 1 of Accelerated  course. Class size is limited to fifteen to allow close involvement.

Complete beginners do not require an assessment. If you are not a total beginner, see our page on course assessments.
