How to Teach Masdar -- Sulafa Nachawati

The concept of “masdar” can be seen as one of the defining topics of intermediate level in teaching Arabic as a foreign language. However, introducing the very concept can often prove problematic even for the most experienced of teachers. It might be quite convenient to focus on the fact that the concept of masdar it is often translated as the “gerund” in English, but this approach can also be counterproductive at times. Therefore, in order to explain masdar, the teacher needs to be aware of the specific areas of complexity related to it, which are illustrated in this article. Practice ideas and materials are also provided.
