Online course sign-up - for courses to be studied in 2012/13

New and returning students must sign up their courses for 2012/13 online.
Exceptions: Students taking the following courses will not be able to use the online system:

  • Exchange
  • Study Abroad
  • Occasional
  • School Certificate

Students on these courses will be given further guidance

How to sign-up for courses

Course choices will be made through the Student Allocator course sign up system. The system will be going live on the following dates:

Returning UG Students: 3rd September 2012
New UG Students: 11th September 2012
New & Returning PGT Students: 3rd September 2012

The latest that you can sign-up for your courses is 12noon (midday) on Friday 28th September 2012. Late sign-up will result in delays to your tutorial allocation and BLE access, so it is very much in your interest to meet this deadline.

Help, I don’t know what courses to choose!

You should look carefully at the relevant faculty/department web pages for information about available course choices.
If you are unsure at any time about your course selections please contact the Faculty Office who will be able to tell you who to contact for academic advice.

What happens next?

Your Faculty Office will approve your course choices, which will then be shown on your Joining SOAS page.  You will need to seek additional approval if you wish to take an intercollegiate course option. The application form is available at the Faculty Office, and also online. All other course choices will have been pre-checked to ensure they meet any requirements. Once you have also completed your Registry enrolment and paid your fees, you will gain access to the Moodle site, where your approved courses and relevant information about them will be visible.

Year abroad students:

There is no requirement for students who will be abroad in the 2012/13 academic year to select their courses online.

Students who are currently abroad, but are expected to return to SOAS in 2012/13, are asked to sign-up for courses online.

Changing a course – prior to Faculty approval

If you need to change a course after it has been submitted online, but prior to the Faculty approving your selection, you can do this by logging back into your account and removing and replacing the relevant courses.

Changing a course – after your Faculty has approved the course

The only way to change a course after it has been approved is to visit your Faculty Office. They will provide you with a form which you will need to complete and then obtain academic approval for the change. Any changes must be submitted by Friday 28th September at 12noon.

The small print

Whilst SOAS cannot guarantee that all courses offered during this sign-up period will be available in the 2012/13 session, every effort will be made to accommodate student choices, and the number of selections made to a particular course may be used to determine this availability. The information will also be used to inform the teaching timetable for 2012/13, although it may not be possible to guarantee that all student choices will be achievable due to the potential for clashes. Please check the online timetable in order to check whether any clashes will occur with your course selections.
