Funding for research students
Conference funding for research students
The Faculty of Law & Social Sciences has a limited amount of funding to partially meet the cost of conference attendance for PhD students nearing completion of their dissertation. The maximum amount considered will be £500.00, though the actual grant may be less. There will be two calls for applications if funding allows: one in term one (by Friday 23rd November 2012), and one in term three. Information will be sent to all research students registered in the faculty via email.
Language funding for research students:
The Faculty also has limited funding to support language training for first year students, where this is necessary for their research work. The grant covers language tuition fees only and priority will be given to languages not taught as undergraduate courses at SOAS. If the language course required is available within the Faculty of Languages & Cultures then it should be studied there. Only where a language is not available within normal teaching provision will applications for this grant, and outside study, be considered.
Applications should be made by students to the faculty office by Friday 30 November 2012, using the form attached and with a supporting statement from their supervisor, demonstrating that the need for training is central to the students’ research.
