MOVIE SCREENING: The story of Cap & Trade

DISCUSSANT: Ms. MJ Mace (Senior Teaching Fellow, SOAS)

Following a selection of short videos to contextualise the issues, MJ Mace,
an international lawyer and an advisor to the Alliance of Small Island
States (AOSIS) in the international climate change negotiations, will
discuss:

(1) recent developments at the international level on emissions trading
under the UNFCCC and Kyoto Protocol;

(2) evolving and emerging emission trading initiatives at the regional and
national levels in Europe, the United States, Canada, Japan, New Zealand,
Mexico, China and Korea;

(3) concerns offset programmes have raised on the ground in the context of
sustainable development and efforts to address these concerns at the
international level under the UN framework.

MJ Mace has been the lead negotiator for AOSIS on Kyoto Protocol issues for
a number of years and participated in the recent climate change negotiations
in Warsaw on market-based mechanisms under the Kyoto Protocol and UN
Framework Convention on Climate Change.
