Transforming the Library
SOAS is transforming your Library into a 21st Century learning environment with a new reception area, group study rooms, increased seating for users & much more.
How the project will affect you
March 2010
- Creation of a temporary reception area on Level A (Philips 3rd Floor) is ongoing.
- Level E refurbishment planning is ongoing.
- Relocation of General Collection from Level E to Level A will commence at the end of March.
- Relocation of the least referenced 20% of all collections to off-site storage will commence at the end of March.
Easter Closure Dates: Thursday 1st April to Sunday 11th April 2010
The Library will be closed to all users during the dates listed above. Online facilities will remain unaffected. Normal opening hours will resume on Monday 12 April.
During the closure:
- The Archives Reading Room will be closed.
- The Library Issue Desk will be moved to Level A (top floor of Library).
- The Enquiry & Membership Desks will be moved to Level A.
- A new Library entrance will open on Level A.
- Stock will be moved – Humanities/Social Sciences collection on Level E will move to Level A.
- Photocopiers, computers and seating will move to Level A.
- Implementation of an off-site store with book-requesting facilities will commence.
- Staff on Level E will begin to be relocated to temporary office space.
- Level A will become the Reception Area for the Library during Phase I of the Library Transformation Project (until Dec. 2010)
