Library Closed Sunday 2nd August, 2015

The Library will be closed on Sunday 2nd August 2015, due to a power shutdown in the Bloomsbury area.  There will  be no penalties for items due for return on this day. 
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

New database trial - Declassified Documents Reference System

We are currently trialling the Declassified Documents Reference System. The database covers govenment documents from the United States and coverage ranges from the years immediately following World War II, when declassified documents were first made widely available, through the 1970s. Nearly every major foreign and domestic event of these years is covered: the Cold War, Vietnam, foreign policy shifts, the civil rights movement, and many others.

Library Service During Tube Strike

As a result of the strike action by London Underground workers on Wednesday evening (8th July) and Thursday (9th July), there may be unplanned service changes as staff travel to and from work.  We will keep you informed of any services changes.

Library system upgrade - renewals & reservations

Due to a systems upgrade, renewals and reservations will not be available from 17.00 Thursday 9th July to 10.00 Friday 10th July. The library catalogue will still be available for searching during this time.

Library self-service only 12-2pm on Thursday 9th July, 2015.

Due to a staff meeting the Issue Desk will be closed 12-2pm on Thursday 9th July, 2015. Self-issue/return will be available, as will Membership services. 
In addition there will be no 4pm collection for materials in storage (e.g. microfilm, DVDs). Archives collections are unaffected.

Abseilers Survey Phillips Building

Commencing Wednesday 1st July 2015, a concrete survey of the Phillips Building will be carried out. You may see abseilers gliding down the building and hear intermittent drilling through Tuesday 7th July 2015.

Limited service Membership and the Issue desks from Monday 29th June, 2-4pm

Undergraduates to borrow 20 items from September 2015

Commencing 1st September 2015, undergraduate students will be able to borrow 20 items for two weeks in line with borrowing rights for postgraduate taught students. The entitlements for postgraduate research students will remain at 50 items. The changes to entitlements is the result of Executive Board-approved standardisation of Library borrowing and access categories.

SOAS ID Card Reader Installation

Installation of the readers around the Library for the new SOAS id cards will take place between Thursday 25th June and Friday 3th July 2015.  There will be minimal disruption whilst the readers are installed and tested.  Library turnstiles are not expected to be affected.

Changes to SOAS Library's participation in the SCONUL Access Scheme

Effective from the 1st September 2015, SOAS will offer SCONUL Access membership Bands A, B and C only. Band R (reference access for full time undergraduates and some outside the other categories) will no longer be offered.

Reserving Library Items from 8 June 2015

From Monday, 8 June 2015, you will be able to reserve Library items online.  We have adjusted the launch date to ensure that the process operates effectively.  We apologise for this delay, but feel it is important to take this additional time before launching the service.

Library Staff Training Day on Wednesday 25th March 2015

Please note that on Wednesday, 25 March 2015, Library staff will be in training sessions all day in preparation for migration to a new system for managing Library resources and user information.
