On-campus access is automatic for most databases; and many can be accessed off-campus using your SOAS id and password (the same as you use for SOAS e-mail and computers). Off-campus access is only available to SOAS students and staff; and is available only where there is a link for 'off-campus use'.

Description

Part of ProQuest, The Times of India is a full text English language database that covers a range of subjects including Politics, History and Society. Document type searches cover reviews, military war news, editorial cartoons, obituaries and marriage notices. Articles  span historical key moments during India's rich and fascinating history, such as the partition of India, colonialism, post-colonialism, terrorism, gender issues and international relations. News stories that can be downloaded  in PDF format capture wars, assassinations, industrial disasters and the creation of Bangladesh. There is also coverage of sports and cinema. Topics can be cross searched  including images.

A database for researching World Trade Organization (WTO) material - it searches across various WTO documents such as official awards and decisions. It enables ‘noting up’ which allows the user to:

  • Find all jurisprudence that applies or interprets a legal instrument or provision
  • Determine whether that jurisprudence is still good law
  • Determine what adjudicators have been saying about that jurisprudence

Description

A comprehensive, interdisciplinary database which provides descriptive, non-evaluative abstracts for almost all publications (reviews are excluded) in the field of Translation and Interpreting Studies. The latest release gives access to more than 20,000 annotated records.

Subject areas

Translation & Interpreting is considered as a broad field of transfer and mediation, containing aspects of intra- and interlingual translation, adaptation, interpreting, reformulation/rewording, localisation/multimedia translation, language mediation and terminology/documentation.

The TSB intends to have broad coverage of current literature. It was decided to start with the last decade and work backwards in time gradually, in addition to covering new publications.

Database of over UK television and radio programmes from around 300 UK stations including terrestrial, cable, and satellite television (with regional variations), all national and many local radio stations.

Description

Online database of over UK television and radio programmes from around 300 UK stations including terrestrial, cable, and satellite television (with regional variations), all national and many local radio stations.

Dates covered

Data is available at least five days in advance of transmission, so TRILT can be used to plan viewing and recording. As the Television Index is added to the database, records of selected academic programmes will be available back to 1995.
