Apps and mobile versions of databases and e-journal websites

Some of our database and e-journal providers offer mobile versions or Apps optimised for use with smart phones and tablets.

 

Cambridge Journals Online

CJOm
Cambridge Journals Online host over 100 of SOAS' e-journal subscriptions; including the Bulletin of the School of Oriental & African Studies and the China Quarterly.
CJOm is a mobile version of their site which is designed for ease of use with smart phones (inc. iphone/pod, Blackberry and Android compatible devices).

Send to Kindle
Kindle users can now send articles direct to their Kindle device or Kindle app from Cambridge Journals Online

Mobile 'twinning'
For easy access on the move CJO now also allows 'twinning' where users can access CJO in the on-campus network, 'twin' their device and then access all of SOAS' subscriptions easily from anywhere. You'll need to register for a (free) CJO account to do this.

Ebrary

EBSCOHost 

EBSCOhost is the home of a wide range of SOAS' databases:
Academic Search Premier, Africa-Wide Information, Art Full-Text/Abstracts, Business Source Premier, Communication & Mass Media Complete, EconLit with Full Text, Index Islamicus, Middle Eastern & Central Asian Studies, RILM Abstracts of Music Literature.

EBSCOhost Mobile

This mobile version offers all of the same functionality as the regular version, but with easier to use navigation and search menus designed for mobile browsing.

The App version allows the same functionality as the regular site,  and allows you: choose which databases to search, Limit results to full text or peer reviewed, Sort by relevance or date, Retrieve full text results in HTML and/or PDF formats, Save results for off-line access at a later date and e-mail results.

To get all the download info login to EBSCOhost and scroll to the bottom to  find the link to 'EBSCOhost iPhone/iPod Touch App' this will get you to e-mail an authentication key to yourself (you don't then need to authenticate again for the next 9 months) and a link to download the App

EndNote - web version and Mobile

The web based version of the reference software, which allows you to search and import references from a range of databases. Includes a 'cite-while-you-write' plugin to allow you to easily add your references to your work.
The web version of EndNote is available free to SOAS students/staff - you'll need to create an account (if you're off-campus you'll need to select 'Shibboleth authentication' and login with your SOAS id and password prior to registration).

HeinOnline - App for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch

HeinOnline - a full-text legal database including journals, reports, treaties and books - can now use a new app version available for iPhone and iPad.
To authenticate users need to use the app within SOAS on-campus wifi once every 30 days, but future developments will allow access using SOAS id & password (Shibboleth/UK Federation).

Oxford Journals Online

Oxford Journals Online have introduced a new mobile site, and now also allow users to register for 'Mobile Vouchers' from within SOAS' on-campus network to authorise their mobile device for easy off-campus access to SOAS' subscriptions for up to 6 months.

Primo Central - Cross-search databases and e-journals.

Primo Central allows you to cross-search many Library databases, making it easier to find full text articles and other bibliographic references. Visitors to our Primo Central service via smart phones will be automatically directed to the mobile version, which is formatted for easy use on the move. 
Make sure you sign-in (top right of the homepage) before you search then you'll automatically be authenticated to access any articles you find.

Sage Journals Mobile

Sage Journals Online offer mobile versions of their journals at title level - the main site remains desktop size but if you navigate to individual titles the site will automatically move to the mobile version. The mobile versions are optimized for use with smartphones and other hand held devices.

Vouchering - Sage now offer 'vouchering' to easily authenticate to their mobile site where ever you are. Once you've registered you'll get access for up to 6 months without having to sign-in to Sage Journals.

Web of Knowledge/Science Mobile version

Web of Science/Knowledge (home to Arts & Humanities Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation Index) now offer a mobile version. To activate your use you must visit the mobile site using on-campus wifi and register, once you have done this your access is available for 6 months.
