Primo Central is being replaced this November by EBSCO Discovery service, as SOAS' resource discovery tool.
EBSCO, the makers of EDS, are partners in the SOAS' new Library management system (Kuali OLE). This enables us to easily integrate EDS into the Library system and catalogue for a more seamless search experience. EDS includes many more of SOAS' subscription databases for you to search across - notably a range of Chinese, Japanese & Korean language databases. EBSCO also host much of the full-text e-journal content available at SOAS, so many articles can be downloaded right in EDS without the need to link out to other sites.
- You can go direct to EDS
- or you'll find a handy search box embedded right in the Library catalogue (in 'Articles and more')
Primo Central will remain available through November (2015), but users should export any saved data as soon as possible. To export data sign in and go to your 'e-shelf' there you have the option to e-mail your saved references or to export to reference software (RIS format will allow you to export and then import into Zotero)
Primo Central is a vast cross-disciplinary index containing millions of journal articles, e-books and more from a wide range of information providers, available in a single search. While the Primo Central index does not include content from every information provider (e.g. EBSCOhost databases are not indexed, although much of their content can be found using Primo Central), it provides a quick and easy starting point for your research. You can also use the Primo search interface to cross-search many of the library’s subscription databases. The drop-down menu in the search box allows you to select sets of databases chosen for their relevance to particular subjects or regions. You can also create your own sets of resources to search using the Find Databases link.
A SOAS id and password are required for off-campus use.
