We subscribe to several sites that provide access to statistics and data for countries around the world. You can access these via the Library database list.
Useful Websites
Guardian Data Store
The Data Store portal available through The Guardian (as part of their 'free data' campaign) provides access to and shares open data resources and government data from around the world. Other related areas of the Guardian's website include a Datablog, the World Government Data search facility, and an applications gallery. All information in the datastore is freely available and it gives links to other data sources and Google spreadsheet documents with varying standards of accompanying metadata.
Financial Times (FT)
FT.com provides comprehensive analysis of financial markets, industries and companies. It features in-depth editorial, analyst estimates, up-to-date global market news and online data, including: equities, world closing prices, FTSE global indices, London AIM/sectors, currencies, managed funds, Euro prices, capital markets, Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), commodities, economic indicators, and interactive charting. There's also an annual reports service, a global archive, search facility and business directory.
Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)
The EIU makes a wide range of data and resources freely available on its website. A more detailed subscription service is available via the British Library's Business and IP Centre.
The EIU website allows you to view PDF reports of business and economic information ona country by country basis. The data tool allows you to generate queries and to customise information by countries, indicators and dates. Data queries run from the data tool, are displayed in HTML and can be charted online or exported to Excel.
Intute Social Sciences Statistics and Data
Contains links to Statistics and Data collections freely available on the internet. Also available is the Virtual Training Suite for Statistics which is a free online tutorial to help university students develop their Internet research skills. Please note that as of August 2011 this site is no longer being updated.
NationMaster
A massive central data source and a handy way to graphically compare nations. NationMaster is a vast compilation of data from such sources as the CIA World Factbook, UN, and OECD and offers a user friendly means of graphically comparing nations.
Offstats
The OFFSTATS database provides access to free statistics from official sources on the web. Web links are arranged by country, region or subject.The database can be searched by a single category, or a combination of categories.All of the content of the database is held in the public domain and is available through the Internet.
WebEc Economics Data
Lists browsable links to economics data collections organised by region and country.
Governments on the WWW
Contains links to official statistics websites of Governments around the world.
International Database
This service, maintained by the United States Bureau of the Census, provides access to a databank of demographic and socio-economic statistical tables for 227 countries and areas.
Index of Economic Freedom
Published annually by the Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal, the Index provides an analysis of economic freedom in countries globally.
Penn World Data
This service provides access to statistics concerning 23 variables on major economies throughout the world, from 950 to 2000.
UC Atlas of Global Inequality
A statistical database which includes articles on economic globalisation: searchable by geographical area, indicator and year.
