Africa Focus: Image and Sound Collection 

This online collection is maintained by the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries. Completed in March 2000, the collection contains more than 3,000 slides, 500 photographs, and 50 hours of sound of songs and singing from forty-five countries.

African Music Archive

Founded in 1991 at the Institute of Ethnology and African Studies, the Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz. Its main area is modern African music (mainly from Africa South of the Sahara).

Archives of African American Music and Culture

A centre devoted to the research and study of African American music and culture at Indiana University. Collections include audio and video recordings, photographs, original scores, and oral histories, among other artefacts and ephemera related to popular, religious, and art music, and black radio.

Baka Pygmies

A resource guide to the culture and music of the Baka Pygmies of Cameroon. The web site includes the fieldwork of Mauro Campagnoli. 

Dictionary of African composers

An alphabetical list of African composers. Provides biographical information about the composers in question and includes details of works and musical styles and influences. Edited members of staff of the Music Department of the University of Pretoria.

International Library of African Music at Rhodes University

A research institution devoted to the scientific study of African music and the oral arts in Africa. Includes online music, other African music sites, news, etc.

Music in the Afghan North 1967-1972

A research project undertaken by Mark Slobin at Wesleyan University. This website, part of the Learning Objects Studio at Wesleyan University, presents his research and illustrates its findings, consisting of photography, moving picture clips, sound clips and the written text. Slobins book, Music in the Culture of Northern Afghanistan (1976), based on his research is available to download free from this site.
