Local places of worship
This is a selective list of places of worship, prayer or meditation, created primarily for students who want information about, or are interested in visiting, such places as part of their studies. It lists places that are the main or significant places of worship or prayer for a particular religious tradition; or religious buildings of historical or architectural interest.
Included are places of worship, prayer and meditation of the major religions of Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The list does not include Christian churches of the Western tradition but does include a selection of Orthodox, Coptic and other Eastern Christian churches.
This is not a comprehensive list of places for followers of a particular religious tradition, nor does it necessarily list the nearest place of worship to SOAS. Practitioners of a particular faith or tradition should check other web pages to find their most convenient church, synagogue, mosque or temple. You can also contact the SOAS Chaplaincy for further information.
Before making a visit to any place of worship, prayer or meditation, students should check when, and if, it is appropriate to make such a visit. Many places are happy to organise group visits.
Islam
Islamic Cultural Centre and the London Central Mosque, 146 Park Road, London NW8 7RG This is the main London mosque situated in Regents Park. Organised tours can be arranged.
