What can I photocopy?

Most material can be copied as long as you comply with copyright regulations. Copyright statements are displayed by each machine.

Please note that restrictions apply to archive material and rare books; readers should consult staff in Special Collections Reading Room for further information.

Where are the photocopiers?
Level A (4th floor)1 black and white machine
Level B (3rd floor)1 black and white machine

Main Reading Room (Level D)3 black and white machine (printing is the priority use for these machines)
Level E (ground floor)Main copiers including colour copiers

How much does it cost?

Black and white:

  • 5p per A4 sheet (whether single sided or double sided)
  • 10p per A3 sheet (whether single sided or double sided)

Colour printing and photocopying:

  • 20p per single sided A4 & 35p double sided A4
  • 35p per single sided A3 & 60p double sided A3

SOAS staff and students: Log in to the photocopiers using your SOAS network login (your six-digit student number and password) or swipe your id card on the card reader if you have registered your SOAS id card. All students are provided with some photocopying/printing credit at the beginning of the academic year. To top up this credit, there is one top up machine by the copiers on level E in the Library and one just outside the library entrance.

External library users: A walk-in user account is set up for all external members when applying at the membership desk or can be created at the Library Enquiry Desk. Accounts can be topped up with the recharging machines on level E by the photocopiers.

Where can I get change?

You can change £5 and £10 pound notes into £1 coins using the change machine on Level E.

Who do I see if there is a problem with a photocopier?

You should report any photocopying problems to the IT support desk in the Library (Floor E). There is a telephone in the photocopying room on Level E from which you may call for assistance (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm) on extension 4950.
