About the book:

'Land of Eternal Hope”'.. Could this really be Afghanistan? Going beyond the images of war, terrorism, fundamentalism and corruption so often associated with Afghanistan, the book 'Land of Eternal Hope, ten years of Lives Shared in Afghanistan” recounts the years of transition from the Taliban regime to the establishment of a democracy and the reconstruction of a war-ravaged country.

The author, who has worked in the field of food security, nutrition, health and agriculture, for NGOs, the United Nations and the Afghan Government between January 2000 and 2010, shares her experience as an aid worker facing the daily challenges and rewards of working during this unique period of history, with her Afghan colleagues. These memories provide the backdrop for the heart of the book: seven of her Afghan friends - men and women from different regions and diverse ethnic and social backgrounds - recount, in their words, the story of their life through over thirty years of war. This mosaic of memories reveals the complexity of the political and social situation, and yet the message that stands out is one of perseverance and hope.
