The computer is a key tool in the linguists toolbox. Many linguists are familiar with SIL's Shoebox (or Toolbox), software for storing lexical and textual data. SIL has since replaced that with a more powerful program - FLEx (Fieldworks Language Explorer), which overcomes many of Shoebox's weaknesses. This seminar will be a presentation of FLEx's main features: a lexicographic database, dictionary publication, text interlinearisation; how these might fit into a field linguist's workflow; and it's interaction with other software both from SIL and elsewhere.
