SOAS academic presents new book on life and legacy of Khomeini

Professor Arshin Adib-Moghaddam has edited a new book on the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the man who led the 1979 Iranian Revolution, which resulted in his appointment as Iran’s Supreme Leader, a position he held until his death in 1989. The book has received favourable media coverage in Iran and beyond, most notably on the BBC Persian website.

Dr Arshin Adib-Moghaddam, Reader in Comparative Politics and International Relations at SOAS, University of London has been described as a foremost thinker and commentator on the Middle East and Muslim world by online publication Muftah.

SOAS Library Persian collection strengthened by generous book donation

The Centre for Iranian Studies, part of the London Middle East Institute (LMEI) at SOAS, University of London, has received a rare and celebrated collection of Persian literature, including the 1970 edition of the Dehkhoda Dictionary, from the private collection of successful Iranian entrepreneur Mr Harun Rashid Farmanfarmaian.

Iran Heritage Foundation (IHF) Visiting Fellowship Programme at SOAS

The Centre for Iranian Studies (CIS) at the London Middle East Institute, SOAS invites applications for the IHF Visiting Fellowship Programme. One fellowship will be tenable from March 2012 for a maximum period of six months. Thereafter two fellowships per year will be offered starting from the beginning of the academic year 2012/13. Each fellowship is available for a minimum of four and a maximum of six months.

Covering Iran: the role of conventional and non-conventional media

The Conference addressed how the 2009 presidential election in Iran and its aftermath provided conventional international media channels with great challenges in covering events and looked at how with further controls brought to bear on the foreign press, many channels turned to use mobile phone footage and Twitter messages in television coverage.
