Commemorating the key political developments that marked the run-up to the invasion in March 2003, a group of engaged artists, activists and
academics will discuss the Iraq war’s impact on global art and politics together with the audience.
Panel One: High and low politics in the run up to war
Speakers:
- Charles Tripp, SOAS – Renowned historian of Iraq and was one of a small number of academics asked for insight by the UK government prior to the war.
- Loulouwa Rashid – Iraq analyst for the International Crisis Group.
- Amir Amirani – Journalist and documentary maker whose latest film, ‘We are Many’ , a documentary about the global protests against the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
- Omar Dewachi – Assistant professor of medical anthropology and public health at the American University of Beirut.

Panel Two: The impact of the Iraq war on the global imagination
Speakers:
- Alan Ingram, UCL – Alan Ingram is currently researching the responses of UK artists and art institutions to the war
- Hanaa Malallah, artist – Hanaa Malallah is well-known Iraqi visual artist whose work closely reflects her experiences of the war and of life in exile
- Nadje al Ali, SOAS – Nadje al Ali is author of Iraqi Women: Untold Stories From 1948 to the Present, co-author of We Are Iraqis: Aesthetics and Politics in a Time of War and a founder of Act Together: Women’s Action for Iraq
- Jonathan Atkinson – Jonathan Atkinson is an artist and researcher whose interests lie at the point where urban development, art and design, community and politics meet
