Talebpour will attempt to examine how certain aspects of the multilateral and unilateral sanctions levied against Iran may not be compatible with international law and international human rights standards. Many scholars have written about the effectiveness of the sanctions, targeted sanctions, etc., but very few have focused on the humanitarian issues and the consequences of the comprehensive economic sanctions on civilians.

Mansour Talebpour, Iran Heritage Foundation (IHF) Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Iranian Studies, SOAS, has recently completed his PhD in International Law at SOAS. He is doing his research on the United Nations Security Council and the US Unilateral Sanctions on Iran and international human rights standards.
