The February-March Edition of The Middle East in London, the bi-monthly magazine of the London Middle East Institute, is now available.

A collection of historical Persian maps donated to SOAS, University of London’s Centre for Iranian Studies at London Middle East Institute in 2013 will be displayed this month. This is also the first time the unique collection is being exhibited in the UK.

SOAS, University of London will be hosting events on the latest crises in the Middle East, ISIS and the meaning of 'caliphate'. Leading scholars specialising on the Middle East across disciplines such as politics, history and gender studies will examine the historical roots of ‘caliphate’ in the region and critically address its ramifications for the region and the world at large this month.

Professor Arshin Adib-Moghaddam has edited a new book on the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the man who led the 1979 Iranian Revolution, which resulted in his appointment as Iran’s Supreme Leader, a position he held until his death in 1989. The book has received favourable media coverage in Iran and beyond, most notably on the BBC Persian website.

The Second Annual CCLPS Postgraduate Conference, From the Speech to the Act: Performativity on the Margins held on 13 June 2014 was a resounding success. Selected papers from the conference will be published in an upcoming issue of the SOAS Journal of Postgraduate Research. A podcast of the conference is also forthcoming.

Senior Palestinian historian addresses packed audience at SOAS for first annual lecture by Centre for Palestine Studies
Famous Palestinian historian, Professor Walid Khalidi, founder and director of the Institute for Palestine Studies (Beirut and Washington), gave a lecture earlier this month on ‘Palestine and Palestine Studies One Century since the First World War and the Balfour Declaration’ to a packed audience at SOAS, University of London, including two Arab ambassadors and several journalists.
