Conferences and Film Studies
The Centre plays an important part in the University and in London itself in furthering appreciation of non-Western media and film, whether to academics or to a more general audience. We have a very active schedule of one-day symposia on special themes, which our senior research students are encouraged to organize. Many have unparalleled knowledge of different regions and media/film traditions of Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Other conferences and events involve international scholars.
Autumn 2007 include India and the Politics of Change and Imagining Bali through Film (with the Royal Anthropological Institute and the University of London Screen Studies group).
The Centre is also a founder member of the University of London Screen Studies group, which has a schedule of 2-3 symposia per year organised by the different member colleges.
