About this event

Professor Alice Bloch

This paper will focus on undocumented migrants, who live under the shadow of detention and deportation. Drawing on data from an ESRC funded project Undocumented Migrants, Ethnic Enclaves and Networks: Opportunities, Traps or Class Based Constructs? (ES/1037490/2) the juxtaposition between invisibility in relation to the state apparatus of internal border controls and the necessity of being visible in some contexts will be explored. The ways in which tensions are experienced, managed and understood as constraints as well as choices in relation to status will be considered.
