Track 2 Allah Lamina
Kadialy Kouyate, kora
Kadialy Kouyate was born in Senegal into a family of griot diali – traditional oral storytellers within Mandinka culture. He started to play the kora, a 21-stringed harp-lute, at an early age and soon gained acclaim as a griot artist for his sparkling live performances. He has been teaching kora to SOAS students for some years, and in 2005 presented a wonderful standing-room only recital with the Paraguayan harp player Kiké Pedersen in the SOAS concert series. ‘Allah Laminah‘ means to endure; Kadialy here plays and sings his own arrangement of this traditional piece.
