2. Rak Muqam: Second Dastan Marghul
Performed on the Dutar.
This instrumental piece, here unusually but stunningly rendered on solo dutar, employs the lyrical 7/8 aqsaq (limping) rhythm, with its striking hemiola, much favoured by the Uyghurs. The piece properly follows on from a sung dastan from the epic of the lovers Hamra and Horliqa.
