Dr Hughes-Freeland is an anthropologist and ethnographic filmmaker, with research interests in dance and performance studies, visual anthropology, media, Southeast Asian studies, and anthropological theory. Her most recent book is Embodied Communities: Dance Traditions and Change in Java (Berghahn 2008).
