This is a masterclass for violinists & fiddle players, dedicated to the art of musical expression through the maqam tradition, as used in the music of Greece and Asia Minor. Led by Kyriakos Gouventas, one of the best violinists active in Greece today, also a gifted and experienced teacher, able to demonstrate complex ideas with clarity and simplicity, passionate and generous about sharing and exchanging musical ideas. The course offers a combination of open classes and one-two-one sessions, as well as the opportunity of a brief performance on the final day.
Limited places! In collaboration with Rebetiko Carnival London.
Kyriakos Gouventas is regarded as one of the finest violinists active on the vibrant Greek music scene at the moment. While classically trained, he later focussed his work and career entirely on the many styles of traditional and popular music of Greece and Asia Minor. He is much in demand asa violinist with many Greek artists, having participated in over 100 recordings, and has toured the world as a founding member of ensemble Primavera en Salonico and its well-known singer Savina Yannatou. He also teaches at the University of Thessaloniki and the Athens Conservatory.
