SOAS Ranked 4th the Guardian University League Table

19 April 2005 In today's Guardian University guide, SOAS has been ranked 4th nationally out of 122 UK Higher Education institutions. This is the second year in a row that the School has achieved 4th place in the Guardian Newspaper rankings.

The School was also rated highly across eight subject areas. Anthropology is ranked 9th nationally; Economics 4th;History & history of art, 5th; Languages 5th; Law 2nd; Music 3rd (but the top ranked university, behind two specialist music colleges); Politics 2nd and Study of Religions [listed under Theology] 4th.

The rankings are based on official data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) with seven indicators counting between 8% and 20% of the total score.

SOAS was also ranked highly in November 2004 by the Times Higher Education Supplement who carried out their first ever world university rankings. The School was placed at number 44 in the world and number 11 in Europe. For further details of this see Source: SOAS
