Head of Amnesty International to Speak at SOAS
6 November 2009
The Secretary General of Amnesty International, Dr Irene Khan, will speak at the School of Oriental and African Studies on 10 November from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Khan is on a tour for her new book, The Unheard Truth: Poverty and Human Rights, and her SOAS appearance will be its official UK launch.
Through personal reflection and case studies, Khan aims to show why poverty is not primarily a problem of economics but rather of human rights. As the number of people living in poverty swells to more than 2 billion, she argues that poverty is the world's worst human rights crisis.
Paul Webley, Director and Principal of SOAS, will introduce Khan and deliver the opening remarks. The talk will be held at the Brunei Lecture Theatre of SOAS’s Brunei Gallery, Thornhaugh Street, Russell Square, London WC1H 0XG.
The event is free and open to the public. For further information, please visit http://www.theunheardtruth.org/.
