Research Award: Human Adaptation to Biodiversity Change

12 August 2010

Andrew Dorward is a member of a team awarded a grant for a 15 month research project on Human Adaptation to Biodiversity Change.

The grant, jointly awarded by the UK Economic and Social Science Research Council (ESRC), National Economic Research Council (NERC) and Department for International Development (DFID) under their ESPA programme is led by Professor Patricia Howard of the University of Kent (UKC) and involves other researchers from UKC, the University of Oxford, Rhodes University (South Africa) and the University of Agriculture in Bangalore, South India.

The project will involve interdisciplinary building and testing of concepts, methods, and tools for understanding and supporting autonomous adaptation to biodiversity change, a critical but little researched and understood topic.

Andrew, working alongside anthropologists, ecologists and modellers, will provide inputs on the role of biodiversity in rural livelihoods and on processes of livelihood change.
