Continuing evaluation of Malawi Farm Input Subsidy

Building on the successful completion of two previous evaluations of the Malawi Agricultural Input Subsidy Programme for the Malawi Government and DFID, Andrew Dorward and Ephraim Chirwa  (of the University of Malawi) have been asked to continue with evaluation of the 2009/10 and 2010/11 implementation and impacts of the programme, renamed the Farm Input Subsidy Programme (FISP).  The evaluation will examine the implementation of the programme in each year and, for 2010/11, gather more information on wider social impacts of the programme and investigate ways of improving analysis of wider programme contributions not considered in conventional economic cost-benefit analysis. Andrew and Ephraim’s detailed assessment of the previous  four years of the widely publicised programme will be published in the International Journal of  Agricultural Sustainability in January 2011, volume 9 (1), and a fuller, pre-publication version of that paper is available at:
