Second Award for Marchand's Book on the Mud Masons of Mali

Masons of Djenne Book Cover

16 December 2010

Professor of Anthropology Trevor Marchand has been awarded two prizes for his latest book--on the same night.

The Masons of Djenne (Indiana University Press 2009) won the 2010 Melville J. Herskovits Award from the African Studies Association (ASA). The award is presented annually for the best scholarly work on Africa published in English. Marchand's book received the award at the ASA annual conference in San Francisco on 19 November.

That same night, as we reported last month, the book won the Elliot P Skinner Prize from the Association for Africanist Anthropology. The prize was awarded at the American Anthropology Association annual meeting in New Orleans.
