David McKenzie, a CNN reporter based in Nairobi, visited SOAS Radio to talk about his award-winning documentary 'Locked Up and Forgotten', which covers the social taboo surrounding mental illness in Kenya.

He was interviewed by Armando Conte, the presenter of the SOAS Radio show Africa Beat.

The documentary recently won an Amnesty International Media Award in the International Television and Radio category.  At a ceremony held on 24 May, the award judges praised the documentary for being 'moving yet constructive'.

The interview explores the core issues behind the problems faced by mentally ill Kenyans today and the progress which has been made since the documentary's release.
