BBC Radio: Philip Jaggar and Tony Benn Reflect on SOAS Alum Paul Robeson
5 July 2011
BBC Radio will broadcast The Robeson Files, a documentary on the American singer, actor, athlete and activist Paul Robeson, who studied at SOAS in the 1930s.
The programme contains an interview at SOAS with Professor Philip Jaggar of the Department of the Languages and Cultures of Africa and with activist and Labour politician Tony Benn.
Robeson was one of the most popular performers of his age. The programme contains excerpts of Robeson's performances and speeches and explores his political activism and the lengths to which the British and U.S. governments went to stop him.
BBC Radio 2 will air The Robeson Files at 10 pm on Wednesday, 6 July.
