New Research Associates in Gender Studies

The Centre for Gender Studies at SOAS is pleased to announce that Dr Samar Habib and Dr Geeta Patel will be research associates of the centre until August 2014.
Dr Habib is the co-founder and General Editor of Nebula: A Journal of Multidisciplinary Scholarship, co-founder and publisher of African Nebula and an editorial board member of Tulsa Studies in Women’s Literature. She is currently working on gender and sexual minority counter cultures in the Arab world.
Dr Patel, currently an Associate Professor at the University of Virginia, Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures and Studies in Women and Gender, teaches courses ranging from Bollywood cinema to history of science and sexuality to risk. Her current research project Insuring Selves, Assuring a Future: The Poetics of Finance delves into insurance, pensions, capital, science, poetry and philosophy from 1750-2010 in South Asia.
