6 November 2012
Around 45 executives from all over Europe arrived this week at SOAS, University of London, to begin the Executive Training Programme (ETP) for Japan and Korea.
SOAS is part of a consortium with Waseda University in Tokyo and Yonsei University in Seoul delivering the programme which aims to equip executives with the knowledge and skills they need to develop business in Japan or Korea.
Professor Graham Furniss, Pro Director for Research and Enterprise at SOAS said “SOAS, University of London is delighted to host the Executive Training Programme. SOAS has unrivalled expertise on Japan and Korea and is ideally placed to provide participants with insights into a wide range of subject areas relating to the two countries before they transfer to Waseda and Yonsei universities.”
The initial three week module, held at SOAS, provides participants with historical, political, economic and cultural background as well as an introduction to the East Asian business environment. It also provides practical skills training such as developing effective business plans. The participants then move to Japan or Korea for nine months where they undergo intensive training in Japanese or Korean language, business and management, and attend a three month internship.
ETP is a one year programme which has been funded by the European Commission for more than 30 years. There more than 1,000 ETP alumni, many now working in senior posts in the Japanese and Korean offices of European companies.
